DC Day 3

We started out our third day with a morning trip to Mt. Vernon- George Washington's Estate. We spent time touring the grounds, his home and learning all sorts of facts about our country's 1st president. We also spotted some secret service agents, ate lunch and shopped the gift shops before heading to our next spot. It was a very impressive farm full of learning opportunities that we really enjoyed.

Next, we made our way back into the city for a quick lesson and picture stop at The Capitol before boarding the bus for our next stop.

After The Capitol stop we headed to The National Archives to see all the
important documents we have been studying. It was very cool to see the actual documents that were drafted so many years ago. Our entire group got to see them up close and it was awesome!

Our next stop was The Museum of Natural History. We had some time to tour here and hit any of the museums we missed yesterday.

Our last stops were at Union Station for dinner and an illuminated walking your of The MLK Jr. Memorial, The FDR Memorial and The Jefferson Memorial.

We were busy all day. It really is amazing how much these kids are soaking up. They are doing a great job listening and retaining information from our wonderful tour guides. They have impressed many with their prior knowledge of the city, the documents, the monuments and it all.

Again, it was another amazing day. The pictures are out of order, my facts may not be straight and I have a lot more to add but it is late and the alarm clock will be waking us soon to begin yet another busy day. So that is all I have in me tonight, but stop by again soon to see the rest of our adventure.

DC Day Two.

Today was another jam packed, fun filled, learning experience. We started out our day in the White House, which is not something many tourists can say. We were lucky enough to have had the opportunity to walk through rooms that presidents, kings, and dignitaries have been in. It was such a great time!

After our tour at the White House, we made our way to Ford's Theater. This was the theater where President Abraham Lincoln was shot. At the theater we watched a play all about the night he was killed. It was very informative and neat to hear the perspective of those who were there the night it happened. After the show we headed across the street to The Peterson House, which was the house were Lincoln was taken afterwards and where he would die the following morning.

Next, we loaded the bus again and traveled to the National Mall where we were dropped off at The Air and Space Museum for lunch and touring. We had several hours to tour the Simithsonian Museums. We did see a little rain, but nothing slowed us down.

After the museum trip, we traveled to the Pentagon City Mall for fine dining in the food court and some shopping.

We finally ended our evening with a night tour of the Vietnam Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial, The Korean War Memorial, and the WWII Memorial. It was a great night and we really enjoyed seeing the mall at night!

Well, as you can see it has been a great day!! It is late, and I apologize for the pictures being out of order or any mistakes that have been made on this post but I am one tired teacher. I will edit, add captions, and more details once we get back. For now I'm just trying to keep you all up to date! So, for now goodnight from DC- tomorrow is another exciting one! Come back and see what we get into next.

DC Day One

Today was a great start to our DC Trip! We left school this morning at 3:00 am and did not stop until we checked into our hotel rooms at around 8:30 tonight. It has been a fun filled day of travel, buffets, and a little history. All 90 of us, parents, students and teachers included have all learned something new. The highlight of our day (not including the claw machine at Golden Corral-which was a HUGE hit) was our stop at Thomas Jefferson's plantation, Monticello. Our students were very well behaved and were soaking up everything they could about the life of Mr.Jefferson. It was a beautiful day and we are hoping for more weather just like today. Tomorrow is another busy day with a White House tour, Ford's Theater, and museums. We are an excited bunch and should all be headed to bed if not already there. Here are some pictures of our day.

Stay tuned for more of our adventures as we head for the city tomorrow!!
