Farewell to Miss Lawson

Friday was our fabulous student teacher's last day with us! :(
She has been an amazing asset to our room and we have loved every minute of having her here. She has done great things and taught us all so much.  On Friday we gave her some gifts which included a scrapbook we made for her with our pictures and letters and she wrote each of us a letter too!! We also gave her books to start her own classroom library and a sign with her name on it for her classroom door one day!
She loves these kids and we were all sad to see her go. Here are some pictures from the day. Miss Lawson, if you are reading this- COME VISIT! :)

Thanks to TB's mom for the YUMMY cake!!

WE WISH HER THE BEST OF LUCK!!
We know she is an excellent teacher and will have her own classroom very soon!!

Guest Readers

Recently we have had a few guest readers in room 201. Reading to the class is one of my most favorite things to do, so I don't just give that up to just anyone. :) You have to be pretty special for me to give up my favorite time of the day. I have found a few people lately that fit the bill and they took time to read to us and I was able to capture a few pictures of it.  One day this month a student in our class was chosen off our BINGO BEHAVIOR BOARD and for her behavior reward she wanted to read to the class! I thought this was a good idea and the class loved it. Also, this month one of our students celebrated turning 9 and his mom and dad came in with hot cocoa, s'mores and they shared a story. It was an extra fun birthday celebration. Lastly, Mr. Featherston (a fourth grade teacher at our school) came in and shared a book he had written with us. That too was a fun experience for us! There are very few things that make me happier than when kids get into a book and are excited  about reading!! These guest readers did an excellent job. If you would like to come read to our class or know someone who would be great, please let me know. We would love to share our rocking chair with you!!

The Ugly Truth

Hello Parents & Friends!
I don't know if you have heard, but the book THE UGLY TRUTH has been released!
These 3rd graders are so excited and anytime kids are excited about reading this teacher is excited too.
The book was released last week (yes- I am a little behind) and they kids could not have been more anxious for it to arrive. Many of them ordered it in September to be delivered to the school on the date of release. That was a L-O-N-G time to wait and one of our classmates was quoted when he FINALLY got his book as saying "This is the best day of my life- until I get my driver's licence that is!". How cute is that?
Our librarian even hosted an Ugly Truth Release Party and all the kids who bought the book got to come and enjoy the new book together and have some super cute cake (made by a parent in our room!). Of course I took pictures of the event to share with you. So ENJOY!

PS- I bought a copy of the book for our classroom library and it has not been on the shelf yet. It may been worn out by the time in makes it to a basket. These kids are LOVIN' it!

The book! The reason for all the excitement.

Cheezy Spelling & Reminders

We are always working on making words and anyway I can make it hands on we try it! We have recently found SCRABBLE CHEEZ-ITS and they are perfect for word making practice! We used them in RTI groups while working on vocabulary words and in class to practice spelling patterns. So, if you are ever out and about and spot a box of these WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THEM to use in class. These would also be a fun tool to use at home. As always, I have included some pictures of our "cheezy" word making.

While you are shopping be on the look out for these.

This young lady is working on the spelling pattern for the week.

HEY! Is that a math word I spot?

This small group is working on making vocabulary words.

I spotted a compound word!

A FEW REMINDERS:
1. The pumpkin contest will end MONDAY NIGHT. Please come out to the PTO meeting Monday night and cast your vote for your favorite pumpkin. We will be awarding prizes that night- so come enjoy the fun. ALSO, the Book Fair will be open before and after the meeting for you to shop.
2. We have been using a FUN, new website to practice reading. We now have a license to RAZ-KIDS.COM. On this site your children are reading books and earning points. It is a very highly motivating system that we are excited to have access to. GUESS WHAT??? You can also access it at home!! I sent home a card with a password and login information. Check it out this weekend and let me know what you think. I think it will be a great tool for our classroom.
3. Don't forget to check your Friday Folder for classwork and other important information.
4. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND.

Peek at Our Week

This week we have been busy. We have been measuring in math, doing Reader's Theater in reading, learning about animals in science and buzzing about the upcoming holiday weekend. Our Book Character Pumpkins were due Friday and they were the talk of the building! We did an OUTSTANDING job!! The entire school stopped by to compliment us on our hard work. I was very impressed and proud of the efforts.

We took some pictures so that you could take a quick peek at our week.

These guys are making words out of the words
TRICK OR TREAT.

Can you tell it was camo day?

We measured in non-standard units- CANDY CORN!

We not only found the weight, circumference, diameter, stem length,
but we also estimated and counted the seeds.

These 2 found 530+ seeds in their pumpkin!

There was GREAT teamwork happening here.

This team sorted their 542 seeds into groups of 10s.

Working hard.
HERE ARE SOME MORE OF THE ADORABLE CHARACTERS WE CREATED:

Thanks for stopping by!
Enjoy your weekend!!

Crazy Hats, Pumpkins & Area

Hello Friends of Room 201!
I have 3 things to share this morning.

1.Today is CRAZY HAT DAY in celebration of Red Ribbon Week. So our room is full of crazy hats and I had to share a few pictures with you of some of those who are participating.

2. Miss Lawson is teaching math this week (hence- why I have time to do a blog post at 8:30am) and she is teaching us all about area and perimeter. This morning she did a fun area lesson using Cheez- Its! Check us out.

3. Our 2nd Annual Book Character Contest is going on now. The pumpkins are due by Friday and I had to share some of the ADORABLE pumpkins that have come in so far! They are displayed in the hallway outside our room and are getting lots of positive attention from everyone in the building. I am soooooo proud of our efforts and cannot wait to see them all.

Thanks for stopping by our blog today!
We hope you are learning as much and having as much fun as we are today!
