We Have a Visitor.

We have a visitor in our classroom this week all the way from Maryland!
Her name is Stacey.
She is flat.
Flat Stacey is a project from a Brownie Troop in MD. She flew (via mail) all the way here to spend the week with us and learn what third grade is like in Kentucky! She has had a great time with us so far. She has been learning so much we have been journaling for her to tell her all about the things she has been doing. She even went to the Academic Team Meet yesterday and to Kindermusik with Mrs. Snyder's little boy!
We wanted to share some pictures of Flat Stacey enjoying her time in room 201.

She helped these two with their multiplication tests!

She helped these ladies write in their journals.

Stacey joined this reading group.

She practiced word work with playdough.

She read with these girls.

She posed with this guy.
He is proud to be the first one to pass ALL of his multiplaction tests.

At recess she played Conncet Four.

She enjoyed reading silently with this guy.

She posed with Mrs. Snyder.

She might have been our good luck charm!
We WON the match!!
She is with us again today.
We will see what kind of adventures she can get into!

Puppy Love

On Friday we fell in love.
We fell in love with a classroom visitor.
His name was DJ.
DJ was a fostered dog from the Scott County Humane Society. A representative from The Scott County Humane Society came to our class to thank us for all of the items we collected for needy animals over the holidays. As you know- instead of exchanging gifts, we collected items for animals. This was a class decision and it was a good one! Our class has a soft spot for animals after reading A Dog's Life- The Autobiography of a Stray. In this book, we read all about a dog who lived her whole life without an owner until the very end. We read about how hard life was for her and we decided we wanted to help make life easier for pets as they waited for a home. We did a great job and we brought in so much. We collected dog food, dog bones, leashes, cat food, toys, treats, blankets and so much more. The Humane Society was very grateful and I was very proud of all our hard work! Keep an eye out for us in the newspaper- we may be in there soon.  Until then check out some pictures from our visit.

Hope everyone had a GREAT weekend. I loved hearing that some of you took my advice and headed to Lexington to The Explorium! I took Clark and we had a WONDERFUL time. If you did not get a chance to go this weekend they are offering $2.00 admission (this is $5.00 off) on 1/17/11 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and we are out of school that day! This would be another great chance to go. For more information about The Explorium go HERE.

A FEW REMINDERS:
  • There is a homework packet this week. If we do have snow they are still responsible for the nightly assignments. Please make sure the packet comes back each day. Also check in the packet for a multiplication log. I am asking that you sign this each night as part of the math homework. I would love to know how you are studying your facts at home.
  • NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY 1/17/11.
  • We still are collecting BOX TOPS & SUNNY D labels.
